Union minister H N Ananth Kumar today said ruling Congress in Karnataka was set to lose next year's Assembly elections but Chief Minister Siddaramaiah was "daydreaming" of victory.
The recent by-election victories of Congress in Gundulpet and Nanjangud segments, where it retained the seats, would in no way impact the next assembly polls, the minister for Chemicals and Fertilisers told reporters here.
The by-election victories only showed him as a 'drowning man' clutching at the last straw, he said.
Kumar said Siddaramaiah had lost the faith of common people including farmers in a large number. He had also not done anything for the welfare of the backward classes, the minister alleged.
He wondered why the Chief Minister did not request his party leaders not to put on hold the constitutional status to OBC Commissions Bill in the Rajya Sabha if he had affinity towards backward classes.
"The Congress had not wanted the development of the backward community since the Independence days", he charged.
The BJP would continue to fight for their rights, he said.
Kumar said the results of the assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand clearly showed the people were with the BJP and had accepted three years of BJP rule at the Centre and its development agenda.
The minister said the passing of the GST bill would make a sea change in the Indian market and the commonman's lifestyle.
While people were exploited by 21 types of taxes, the country would have one tax and one market, he said.
