"Congress will put up united fight in next assembly polls and will measure up to public expectations," Jakhar said here.
Claiming that Punjabis were totally disillusioned under the rule of SAD-BJP coalition government, Jakhar said Congress will show them the doors in next elections.
Accusing Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal of letting go farmers issues, Jakhar alleged that the CM was feeling the heat of drug racket involving many Akalis, the subsequent probe by Enforcement Directorate and thus was reluctant to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi regarding farmers issues.
Questioning the "studied silence" of Badal on the "tardy" wheat procurement, Jakhar alleged that while during UPA government Badal used to demand Rs 20,000 to Rs 25,000 compensation for farmers for the loss, he was now asking from NDA government just Rs 10,000 compensation and Rs 100 bonus for per quintal wheat.
He alleged that the administrative set up had totally collapsed as far as procurement of wheat was concerned and farmers were cooling their heels in state 'mandis' in long wait of purchase of their produce but it was not being procured by anybody that forced them to sell wheat at far less price than the Maximum Selling Price (MSP).
Jakhar announced that Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee (PPCC) leaders were starting a drive tomorrow to visit state mandis to express solidarity with farmers whose produce was not being procured.
