"Congress supports Trinamool Congress leader Tapan Dutta's widow's demand for a CBI inquiry into the circumstances leading to the killing and will inform the Union Home ministry about inaction by the state government," WBPCC President Pradip Bhattacharya said.
Tapan Dutta, the Trinamool Congress leader at Bally in Howrah district, was killed allegedly by his own partymen over a dispute on filling a waterbody in September last year.
"We have a moral responsibility. We will inform the Union Home ministry about the incident and the subsequent intimidation of family by Trinamool workers," Bhattacharya, flanked by Dutta's widow Pratima, said at the WBPCC office.
Pratima said "We are under constant threat and I demand exemplary punishment of the killers."
WBPCC sources said that the party would move Governor M K Narayanan on the issue.
