Twelve policemen and 20 others were injured when protesters allegedly started pelting stones at the police, police added.
About 2000 Congress workers led by MLA Ashok Chandana were heading to district collector's office raising slogans against the state government over the issue of compensation for the rain-hit farmers when they were stopped by a senior police officer who asked them to submit a memorandum, SP Bundi Bhuvan Bhushan Yadev said in a press conference.
Police has booked 23 persons under various sections in this connection, the SP said.
Meanwhile, Chandana said about 25 of his workers were detained by the police while several others were injured in stone pelting by the police.
He criticized the police and district administration for not allowing a peaceful demonstration to demand compensation for farmers hit by unseasonal rains in March despite having sought permission for the same.
