Ruling Congress in Meghalaya today ousted the National People's Party (NPP)-led executive committee in the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC) in a floor test.
Boston Marak won the floor test to form the new Executive Committee (EC).
Marak, who defected from NPP, with the support of Congress members garnered 17 votes while Sukharam Sangma of NPP managed only 11 in the house of 29. The remaining one member is the deputy chairman who oversaw the test.
Today's development comes three months of administrator's rule following resignation of GHADC chief executive member Dening T Sangma in March before facing a trust vote.
Accepting the defeat NPP candidate Sukaram K Sangma and former CEM Denang T Sangma wished the new CEM well while also assuring their support in the smooth conduct of the House.
Newly elected CEM Boston Marak appealed to all to work together in ensuring smooth governance of the second oldest autonomous body in the state.
