Blaming the Odisha government for spurt in communal violence in the state, the opposition Congress today sought Governor S C Jamir's intervention into the matter.
A delegation of the Congress led by OPCC President Prasad Harichandan met Jamir and apprised him of the recent incidents of communal clashes in different parts of the state.
The delegation also submitted a memorandum seeking his intervention into the matter, said Harichandan.
The party cited the incidents of communal violence at Soro in Balasore district, Basudevpur in Bhadrak district, Rourkela in Sundergarh district and Pattamundai in Kendrapara district over immersion of Lord Ganesha idols.
Harichandan claimed that law and order situation had collapsed in the state which is evident from the spurt of communal violences in traditionally peaceful Odisha.
"Communal violence has reached the extreme level. It's in an explosive state. Communal harmony has been badly affected. There has been violence and bloodshed between communities," he told media after meeting Jamir.
The Congress leader further pointed out that communal violence erupted at the same place of Rourkela where it had taken place barely two months ago.
"The situation has gone out of control in Soro. It seems the government doesn't want to take any action," Harichandan added.
