Congress sets up new cell for street vendors

In a bid to expand its outreach to street vendors, Delhi Congress today launched a new cell will to look after the affairs of the community.
The launch of "Delhi Rehri Patri Evam Asangathit Kamgar Congress" comes two days after Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi interacted with the street-vendors in Raghubir Nagar area here.
Announcing the appointment of Anurag Shankar as the chairman of the cell, Delhi Congress chief spokesperson Sharmistha Mukherjee said the cell is meant for the welfare of the community and it would help the party to have "regular interaction" with the street vendors.
"There are five lakh families of the street vendors here that clearly means that their population in Delhi is close to 20 lakh," Mukherjee said, adding that the Central government is yet to implement the Street Vendor's Act which was passed in the Lok Sabha in 2013 during the UPA rule.

Meanwhile, the DPCC leader also denied media reports that Delhi Congress chief Ajay Maken's petition in the High Court has been "rejected".
Maken had filed a PIL in Delhi HC which sought direction from the court to restrain the Delhi government from airing its recent audio visual TV advertisement and also its recent advertisement.
