Congress workers held for protest against cash crunch

Nearly 200 Congress workers were today arrested for attempting to lay siege to two nationalised banks in the city, to protest the lack of adequate cash for public, days after the demonetisation move.
About 100 workers assembled near the District Collectorate here and raised slogans against the Centre for banning Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 notes, without proper planning.
They, then proceeded to an ATM attached to State Bank of India, a few metres away, and laid a wreath on the cash-strapped machine to symbolise its "demise," police said.
When the workers attempted to besiege the SBI office, police arrested them.

Meanwhile, another 100 party activists laid wreath on an ATM belonging to Central Bank of India in Singanallur and attempted to tear off a portrait of Prime Minister Narendra Modi before they were removed by the police, they added.
