The Uttar Pradesh government has removed Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Lucknow Pravin Kumar and posted controversial Maharastra cadre IPS officer Yashasvi Yadav in his place, official sources said here.
Kumar has been removed and attached to the DGP office while Yadav has been made new SSP, Lucknow, they said.
Yadav, a 2000 batch Maharashtra cadre IPS officer took over the charge last night.
Yadav who was attached to the DGP office after High Court ordered his transfer from Kanpur, where he was SSP and allegedly committed atrocities on doctors after they clashed with SP MLA Haji Irfan Solanki.
SSP Yadav had allegedly lathicharged the doctors when a clash broke out on February 28 between supporters of SP's Aryanagar MLA Irfan Solanki and junior doctors of the GSV Medical college, after the MLA objected to some junior doctors allegedly misbehaving with an elderly person at the Medical College Square.
Almost 400 medical students and junior doctors got injured.
The doctors later went on a strike demanding the arrest of SP MLA Irfan Solanki allegedly involved in the clash, action against SSP Yashasvi Yadav and withdrawal of charges against 24 junior doctors.
The Lucknow bench of Allahabad High Court had on March 5 ordered a judicial probe into the incidents in Kanpur and in compliance with that, the state government constituted a one-member inquiry commission headed a retired judge to probe the incidents at the GSM Medical College in Kanpur and at a petrol pump nearby.
No official reason has been cited for transfer of Kumar.
