A policeman was injured when a group of Naxalites allegedly opened fire on a police patrol party at a village in Maharashtra's Gadchiroli district.
Sub-inspector Tejas Mohite (28) sustained bullet injuries when a group of armed Naxals indiscriminately fired yesterday on the patrolling team at Kotmi Police Assistance Post in Etapalli village of Gadchiroi district on Maharashtra-Chhattisgarh border, police said today.
In retaliation, the police also fired at the Naxals who then fled from the area, they said.
Later, additional police force was rushed to the spot.
Mohite, who got injured in the gun-battle, was taken to district hospital and later shifted to a city nursing home where his condition was reported to be stable, police said.
The police assistance post was set up in the village in February this year.
