A robbery bid on a house in Saket area of Delhi was foiled and one of the robbers nabbed by a police officer who also suffered injuries.
One of the robbers, identified as Ram Dayal was nabbed after he suffered a bullet injury on his leg when ASI Ramesh fired shots to scare the culprits who attacked him with rods and knives, police said.
According to police, Central Police Control Room received information from the locals around 1.44 am last night that some robbers were seen entering a house situated in the C Block of Saket.
"Control Room instantly informed the nearest PCR van supervised by ASI Ramesh, who immediately rushed to the spot and found around 5-6 armed robbers trying to break into a house (having number 58 A).
"Ramesh tried to nab them, but they attacked him with iron rod and knives," a senior police officer said, adding that this prompted him to fire 5 shots to scare them, one of which hit Ram Dayal.
"Despite sustaining serious injuries, Ramesh took injured accused, identified as Ram Dayal, to AIIMS Trauma Centre where he is recuperating with his injuries," the officer said, adding that the four other accused fled.
Commending Ramesh's "exemplary courage", the officer said he is being "suitably rewarded with the Asadharan Karya Puraskar".
