The incident took place yesterday when the police constable Mahesh Thakur was escorting the two under-trails to the Adharwadi jail from the Bhiwandi court, a senior police official said.
When the two under-trials Nayeem Khalil Momin (32) and Nissar Moinuddin Ansari (26) boarded the police van, their friend Mustafa Shaikh (27), who was near the vehicle tried to give them a cell phone, the officer said.
According to the police official, Thakur objected to this and was manhandled by Momin, Ansari and Shaikh.
