Police said the incident took place around 8.20 AM this morning when Ajit was posted near the reception at L-G house.
"As per initial investigation, it seems Ajit suffered bullet wound in his stomach when his service revolver accidentally went off when he was putting it in its holster," a senior police officer, adding, they are also investigating whether it was a suicide attempt.
Ajit was rushed to a nearby hospital where his condition is said to be normal, the officer added.
