Copper futures traded 0.22% lower at Rs 317.70 per kg today as speculators reduced their positions amid muted demand at the domestic spot markets.

At Multi Commodity Exchange, copper for delivery in February fell by 70 paise or 0.22% at Rs 317.70 per kg in a business turnover of 777 lots.

Similarly, the metal for delivery in far-month April shed 65 paise or 0.20% at Rs 322 per kg in a moderate business turnover of 10 lots.

Analysts attributed the fall in copper futures to offloading of positions by participants amid subdued domestic demand but strength in base metals at the London Metal Exchange (LME) restricted fall in prices.

Meanwhile, copper at the LME rose as much as 0.2% to % 4,744.50 per tonne.
