Copper down 0.2% on weak global cues

Speculators reduced positions, tracking a weak trend in base metals overseas

Copper prices fell 0.25% to Rs 417.70 per kg in futures trade today as speculators reduced positions, tracking a weak trend in base metals overseas amid subdued domestic demand.

At the Multi Commodity Exchange, copper for delivery in far-month February next year eased by Rs 1.05, or 0.25%, to Rs 417.70 per kg in a business turnover of 31 lots.

Metal for delivery in November also fell by 70 paise, or 0.17%, to Rs 412.05 per kg in 1,187 lots.

Analysts attributed the fall in copper futures to weak trend in base metals in the global markets as strengthening dollar erodes appeal for commodities priced in the greenback.

At the London Metal Exchange copper for three-month delivery dropped by 0.1% to $6,683.50 a tonne.
