Copper prices edged up by 0.25 per cent to Rs 315.05 per kg in futures trade today as traders created fresh positions, driven by a firm global trend.
Besides, pick up in demand at domestic spot markets supported the upside.
At the Multi Commodity Exchange, copper for delivery in April month rose by 80 paise, or 0.25 per cent to Rs 315.05 per kg in business turnover of 16,678 lots.
Similarly, the metal for delivery in far-month June contracts traded higher by 75 paise, or 0.24 per cent to Rs 319.70 per kg in 391 lots.
Analysts said fresh position built-up by participants in line with a firm global trend mainly led to the rise in copper prices at futures trade.
Meanwhile, copper for delivery in three month rose 1.1 per cent to USD 4,811.50 per metric tonne on the London Metal Exchange.
