The Delhi Police claimed to have seized 9 kg of fine quality hashish and arrested two men for allegedly transporting the consignment from Kashmir to West Bengal.
Acting on a tip-off, a team of the Delhi Police's special branch intercepted a truck near Fun Park on the Delhi-Haryana border yesterday evening.
Mashiar Rahaman Mondal, 53, a resident of Nadia in West Bengal, and Mohammad Arif, 26, hailing from Poonch in Jammu and Kashmir, were arrested.
Arif was driving the truck, bearing a Jammu and Kashmir registration number.
Police estimated the value of the seized consignment at Rs 90 lakh.
The Delhi Police's special cell has been working for the past six months on inputs about the supply of premium quality hashish by a Kashmir-based man in Delhi-NCR, Mumbai, Kolkata and other parts of the country, said Pramod Kushwah, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Special Cell).
During interrogation, Arif revealed that he had come in contact with Kashmiri drug supplier Gulam Hassan, and started working for him.
"Arif has made five deliveries of around 60 kg of hashish to various receivers in Delhi and NCR and buyers from West Bengal in the past six months," the police officer said.
Mondal revealed that he worked as a "carrier" for a drug trafficker from Belgharia, on the outskirts of Kolkata.
