A meeting of the country boat fishermen association held at Karaiyur decided to stage the protest by standing in the sea water and hoisting black flag on boats.
The meeting was headed by K M Raman, Karaiyur, Fishermen Association President and many fishermen from Rameswaram, Dhanuskodi and Natarajapuram participated. They said about 1,000 fishemen were fishing by country boats. Some fishermen ofmechanised boats were fishing within three nautical miles with banned fishing nets. Due to this, their livelihood was affected.
