Jeripothula Naveen, 24, an auto-rickshaw driver in Koheda mandal headquarters had an affair with Kodimunja Sirisha, 24, of the same village and were in a relationship for last two years, they said.
The couple allegedly committed suicide yesterday after their parents opposed their affair and were against their wish to get married, Koheda Police Station sub-inspector G Nailu said.
"The duo met near an agricultural well on the outskirts of Koheda, nearly 45 kms from here, last night and jumped into into the well," he said.
According to preliminary investigations, it was learnt that the girl's marriage was fixed to a man in Mumbai and the ceremony was to planned to be held in November, the officer said, adding, dejected by families rejecting their marriage proposal, the couple took the extreme step.
The bodies were sent to government hospital at Husnabad for post-mortem, he added.
