A man and his wife have been arrested by the Delhi Police for allegedly duping more than 25 persons of Rs six lakh on the pretext of getting them overseas jobs.
The police swung into action after a complaint was lodged by a man, alleging that he had paid Rs 20,000 to the couple -- Arun Kumar and his wife -- after receiving an e-mail from their company, 'Job Mantra', assuring him of a job in Dubai or Singapore within three months.
During investigation, the police received 25 similar complaints against the couple who had allegedly cheated the complainants to the tune of Rs six lakh.
The couple also had an accomplice who had gone absconding, the police said.
An FIR under section 420 (cheating), IPC was lodged on March 17 against the accused at Subhash Place police station.
Arun Kumar was arrested on April 19 and his wife the next day.
Explaining the modus operandi of the accused, the police said, they got their company registered and took people in confidence by approaching them through phone calls and e- mails.
The couple and the third accused, Manmohan Singh, had floated various such "fake" companies such as 'Success Domain', 'Track' etc. And had collected huge sums of money from innocent persons through fraudulent means, the police said.
