Justice Sanjib Banerjee directed Kolkata Police Commissioner Surojit Kar Purokayastha, who appeared before the court along with DCP (Port) Sudip Sarkar, to ensure that a 606 square metre piece of land on the western bank of the river Hooghly is vacated.
Justice Banerjee had in September directed the city police to ensure protection to KoPT officials so that squatters on the piece of land are evicted.
KoPT had informed the court that they were yet to receive police assistance for evicting illegal occupants.
