Court convicts former petty officer of Naval Ship Repair Yard

A Special CBI court today convicted a former petty officer at the Naval Ship Repair Yard and his father-in-law who cheated a job aspirant in the Indian Navy.
G S Bijumon, the then Petty Officer Mechanical Engineering, Naval Ship Repair Yard and his father-in-law J Ayyappan Pillai have been found guilty for the offences punishable under Indian Penal Code and and sentenced to undergo rigorous imprisonment for two years.
The court of Special Judge-III, CBI, Ernakulam also ordered them to pay a fine of Rs 10,000 each.
Bindu S, wife of Bijumon, has been acquitted in the case investigated and prosecuted by CBI, ACB, Cochin Branch.
The prosecution case was that the accused Bijumon, while working in Indian Navy as Petty Officer, Mechanical Engineering, INS Sutlej and Naval Ship Repair Yard, Kochi during 2009-10, impersonated himself as Lieutenant Commander of Indian Navy and cheated one Imran Khan, an aspirant for the post of Senior Secondary Recruit in Indian Navy and falsely assured him to be recruited in Indian Navy as Sailor on payment of illegal gratification of Rs 1,50,000.
After the recruitment of Imran Khan as Senior Secondary Recruit, on merit basis, the accused demanded and accepted Rs. 50,000 as illegal gratification, through the father-in- law.
Further on the insistence of Bijumon, Imran Khan made over a blank dated cheque for Rs 80,000 as guarantee for the balance amount.
