CBI got recorded today a crucial witness statement before a Magistrate in connection with the disproportionate assets case against Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh.
The recording of statement triggered a court room drama with son of one of the accused in the case filing a Habeus Corpus petition in Delhi High Court for the production of CBI witness Saroj Singh when the recording of statement was going on at the Patiala House Court.
CBI sources said the statement of Singh was getting recorded at around 12.30 PM. At around 2.30 PM CBI was informed that a Habeus Corpus petition has been filed by one Nishant Chauhan who is son of Chunni Lal Chauhan, one of the accused in the FIR.
At around 3 PM CBI produced Singh before Delhi High Court where he claimed that he was getting his statement recorded in front of Magistrate and he had come here two days back and staying with one of his acquaintances.
Chauhan who had filed the petition had demanded that Singh is handed over back to him but the High Court dismissed the petition and also request for custody.
Following this the recording of statement was completed here today.
Chunni Lal Chauhan is the properiter of Universal Apple Associates and is named in the FIR against Virbadhra Singh's disproportionate assets case.
The Chief Minister has rubbished the allegations of CBI calling them baseless.
It is alleged that Chauhan helped Singh in showing his illegitimate income as agriculture income.
Saroj Singh, the CBI witness, is an accountant of Chauhan and is believed to be privy to crucial financial dealings.
