Additional Sessions Judge Shail Jain released on bail Surajveer, Vikas Kumar Singh and Neeraj Mishra considering their young age.
"Considering the facts and circumstances, the applicants are of young age, students of Delhi University and are in judicial custody since September 12, 2013, the applicants/ accused are admitted to bail on furnishing personal bond of Rs 20,000 along with one surety of like amount each...," the court said.
"Like the incident of Ramlila Maidan, when Baba Ramdev and his followers were brutally attacked by Delhi Police and the Supreme Court took a serious view of the same. About a year has passed but Delhi Police this time used its force on innocent, non-political, non-religious group of students whom we proudly address as the future of the nation and who were protesting democratically for the welfare of entire students' community," the counsel told the court.
According to police, the incident had taken place on September 11 when the University authorities advised the police to hospitalise student Praveen Kumar who was on hunger strike in the North Campus for 11 days. When the police personnel took Kumar in the ambulance, 25-30 students blocked their way and manhandled them and also damaged their vehicle, it said.
Police alleged the students had indulged in rioting, caused hindrance in public duty of police officers, injured them and also burnt their vehicle.
The students, however, said they were falsely implicated by the police and the case was lodged to save and justify their action of attacking students when they were sleeping at midnight.
