Gupta said she is extremely proud that Tamhane's Marathi film is India's official entry for the coveted Oscar Awards.
Debutant director Tamhane's independent, low-budget drama which released in April this year, has won National Award this year and was a part of NFDC's film festival Film Bazaar in 2012.
"'Court' is an exceptional film. It's a great choice for the Academy. How does it fare with 100 odd entries from different countries, that is any body's guess. I am sure that the producers will promote the movie well in America. We are extremely proud of Court," Gupta told PTI.
One of the highlights of Film Bazaar this year is Film Tourism Workshop that aims to promote India as a 'destination' for shooting films.
"We believe there is a lot of economic potential for India to become a 'film-friendly industry' and become a shooting destination because it has tremendous scope. The workshop aims to engage with various state governments to help them understand marketing, case studies, strategies for the same," she said.
Film Bazaar will have various segments like 'Work In Progress Labs', 'Viewing Room' and 'Co-production Market', with films like "Manto" directed by Nandita Das, "Agra" directed by Kanu Behl of the recent "Titli" fame among others.
"There is a great openness to storytelling today and audience is very receptive to all kinds of cinema. But none of these films would have done well without the studios and distribution companies who ensured they get a release," Gupta said.
