: CPI today demanded that the administration take steps on a war footing to ensure proper infrastructure and number of teachers in government schools to attract parents into admitting their wards there, instead of going to private schools.
A resolution adopted at the party's Puducherry unit committee meeting expressed concern over the serious shortage of buildings and teachers in government schools.
CPI secretary Viswanathan alleged that private schools were also extracting donations and hefty fees for admission. Parents face difficulty and so government ensure that children are admitted to government schools by improving infrastructure and posting adequate teachers, he said.
The party in another resolution urged the government to ensure that private medical colleges earmark 50 per cent of the total seats in the institutions in MBBS course under government quota.
Presently only 265 seats are earmarked through negotiation with private colleges though 450 should be available as the colleges which totally have 900 seats in MBBS course, in keeping with the stipulation binding the colleges.
