The opposition CPI(M) today alleged that the police department has abruptly reduced the number of personal security provided to the MLAs, MPs and party leaders to restrict their movement in a bid to refrain them from their political and organizational works.
A five member delegation of CPI(M) MLAs led by Deputy Leader of the opposition, Badal Chowdhury yesterday submitted a memorandum to the Director General of Police (DGP), Akhil Shukla and demanded enhancement of securities.
Stating that the ruling BJP workers have let loose a "reign of terror" in the state, Chowdhury said, four promising party workers were murdered after the BJP-IPFT government took oath of office on March 9 last and added thousands of party workers were forced to flee from their houses and took shelter elsewhere.
BJP ended 25-years rule of the CPI(M) in Tripura in March this year.
He alleged that hundreds of party offices were either damaged or ransacked and supporters and activists of the party were often attacked by the ruling BJP workers.
Chowdhury alleged that recently movement of CPI-M legislature team led by leader of the opposition and former Chief Minister Manik Sarkar was prevented at Gaandacherra in Longtorai value sub-division in Dhalai district by the BJP workers.
He further alleged that when Sarkar goes outside Tripura, no security persons accompany him, what is a matter of concern.
Sudhan Das, a CPI-M legislator was attacked in his own constituency at Rajnagar in South Tripura district by the ruling party supporters and activists after the new government came to power, Chowdhury claimed.
He demanded more securities to the MLAs, MPs and former MLAs and former MPs so that they could move freely and without fear and continue their organizational works.
