Party General Secretary Sitaram Yechury said the CPI(M) would take initiative to launch a countrywide agitation with other Opposition parties to put pressure on the Centre to make proper arrangements to end the "anarchy" in the country and economic system caused by demonetisation.
He was speaking at a dharana organised by the CPI(M)-led LDF in Kerala in front of the RBI office here to protest against the Centre's move to "destroy" co-operative sector under the cover of demonetisation process.
"None of the objectives can be fulfilled and what is the result. People are not able to meet both ends", he said.
"Our demand to the government is that till the alternative currency is made available in the banking system and in the country, the defunct Rs 1,000 and Rs 500 notes shall be allowed for all legal transactions," he said.
He said the party plans to take up this issue along with other Opposition parties and launch an agitation against the "mad Tuglak reforms of Prime Minister Narendra Modi".
Yechury also said party has taken up the problem faced by the cooperative sector in the Parliament and will launch a stir to "save it".
Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan and his Cabinet colleagues also participated in the agitation.
