Jammu and Kashmir unit of Communist Party of India (Marxist) (CPI(M)) on Tuesday criticised the Director General of Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) for his statement on use of pellet guns in the Valley, saying it amounted to "erosion of political authority" by the security apparatus in view of the directions from Union Home Ministry.

"Such utterances of the security apparatus are dangerous and amount to erosion of the political authority of the dispensation," CPI(M) leader and MLA Kulgam M Y Tarigami said.

He said use of pellet guns in the Valley has caused havoc and more than hundred young boys have suffered injuries to their eyes.

"It is unacceptable that even if the Home Minister of India after acknowledging the fact that pellets have darkened the world of more than hundred young boys, an official from CRPF would debate lethal and non-lethal nature of pellets," Tarigami said, adding the fact was that pellets have gravely injured the Kashmir psyche".

"The use of brutal force against protesters on whatever pretext was simply unacceptable," the CPI (M) leader added.
