Coming down heavily on the government, in the Assembly, CPI(M) veteran and state opposition leader V S Achuthanandan accused the government of "showing partiality" towards ruling party MLAs.
"There is no case against the ruling MLAs who attacked women legislators during the violence. The case is registered against opposition MLAs for exposing the government's corruption. This is dual justice," he said.
"The case is registered against the opposition MLAs as they had raised voice against corruption by this government. But, we are ready to face imprisonment or even capital punishment in our strike against corruption," he said while seeking to move an adjournment motion against Excise Minister K Babu in the bar bribery scam.
The Crime Branch filed the FIR yesterday naming six opposition MLAs as accused for destructing public property during an incidence of violence in the Assembly on March 13 this year during Budget presentation while demanding resignation of former finance minister K M Mani.
The MLAs named in the FIR are CPI(M)'s E P Jayarajan, V Sivankutty, C K Sadasivan, K Kunjahmed, K Ajith and left Independent K T Jaleel. They had been suspended for allegedly vandalising the Speaker's dais in the Assembly.
The FIR was filed on the complaint by the Secretary of the state Assembly for destruction of public property worth Rs two lakh during the mayhem when the Speaker's chair was allegedly toppled by the MLAs and computers damaged.
