The CPI(M) today sought the intervention of West Bengal Governor M K Narayanan into alleged attacks of opposition candidates by the ruling Trinamool Congress during nomination filing for next month's panchayat polls.
"We have submitted a list of district wise incidents of attacks, assaults and intimidation of opposition candidates and workers during filing of nominations and sought his intervention," Leader of the Opposition Suryakanta Mishra said.
The governor's attention was also drawn to threats being held out to the opposition candidates to withdraw from the contest, Mishra said.
Alleging that the state government had scant respect for the Constitution, he said that it was unable to provide security to opposition candidates.
Mishra said that unless the state government took steps to curb the violence, "the Left Front will have to chalk out its course of agitation.
