CPI seeks LS discussion on "politically-motivated" JPC report

CPI leader Gurudas Dasgupta today sought a discussion in Parliament on the report of the Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) on the pricing of telecom licences and spectrum, saying it was "never placed" for a debate but just voted out.
"I want a discussion not to hurl abuses at any individual, least of all on the Prime Minister, but to record how politically motivated the report is.
"It is going to tarnish the image of Parliament because it is Parliament which appointed the JPC," he said in a letter to Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar.
Maintaining that the JPC report was "never placed for discussion but just voted out", Dasgupta said, "facts were never taken into consideration. Arbitrarily, and subjectively, the report was drawn up."

Observing that the report states the Prime Minister had been misled on the spectrum allocation issue, he claimed "there are facts with me which suggest that the Prime Minister was in the know of things."
The tenure of the present Lok Sabha was coming to an end and such an important issue should not miss Parliament's attention, the CPI leader said.
"Under whatever rule possible, I expect you to permit a discussion on the subject," he said, adding that there were "many other omissions and examples of one-sidedness in the report.
