Blaming Narendra Modi Government for rise in prices of essential commodities, CPI today said it will observe October 5 as an "anti-price rise" day to highlight Centre's failure in dealing with the issue.
"Prices of essential commodities have gone up even as fuel prices have gone down internationally. The Narendra Modi Government has failed miserably in controlling the price rise.
"Hence, to protest its failure, we will observe the anti-price rise day," CPI National secretary D Raja said.
Speaking to PTI on the sidelines of party's two-day national executive meeting, which got over today, Raja expressed concerns also over drought situation in parts of the country.
The Rajya Sabha member said the party will also highlight plight of farmers from drought-affected areas on the protest day.
He reiterated the Left Front will contest Bihar assembly polls as an Independent bloc and claimed the communist parties will provide voters with an alternative "for the development of the state."
The five-phase Bihar polls begins on October 12 and results of the election will be declared on November 8.
Meanwhile, CPI congratulated it's student wing, All India Students' Federation (AISF), for winning the post of president of Jawaharlal Nehru University Students' Union.
AISF's Kanhaiya Kumar has been elected as the president of the union.
