CPI urges Centre to rescind nomination of three legislators

CPI's Puducherry unit today urged the Centre to rescind its order issued in July this year nominating three members belonging to the BJP as legislators of Puducherry Assembly.
The three nominated members K G Shankar, S.Selvaganapathy and V.Saminathan were inducted by Lt Governor on July 4 at Raj Nivas triggering strong protest from the ruling Congress and its alliance partner the DMK among others.
A resolution adopted at the general council meeting of the party here said the nomination of the three members as legislators by the Centre was done by the Centre without any recommendation from the Puducherry government.

The Centre had not also consulted the territorial government on the matter, the resolution said adding "the nomination is opposed to democratic norms and violated the procedural formalities", it said condemning the "unilateral nomination of the members by the Centre".
Another resolution of the party wanted a movement to urge the Centre to grant statehood status for Puducherry so that all the current difficulties of financial crisis and lack of power for the elected government to evolve developmental plans on its own could be overcome.
