CPWD engineers' association members today staged a protest outside the Nirman Bhawan here to press for their demands, including revision of pay scale of assistant engineers, promotions and regularisation of ad-hoc employees.
All India CPWD Engineers Association general secretary A K Asthana said the union will intensify its protest if the "long pending and most genuine" demands are not met.
The Central Public Works Department (CPWD) is an attached office of the Housing and Urban Affairs (HUA) Ministry, which is located in the Nirman Bhawan.
Asthana said assistant engineers in the CPWD are placed in a lower grade pay as compared to its equivalent posts in other central and state government offices, and demanded its revision.
Other demands include regularisation of ad-hoc posts of engineers, which are currently around 500 in the organisation, and pending promotions, besides filling up of around 800 vacant posts, he added.
Union president R K Singh said their demands also include the "immediate implementation" of the EY's recommendations on working of the CPWD, saying it will increase the efficiency of the organisation.
Later, the union also submitted its memorandum of demands to CPWD Director General Abhai Sinha and a copy of it to Union HUA Minister Hardeep Singh Puri and HUA secretary D S Mishra.
Asthana said the All India CPWD Engineers Association has around 4,000 members.
Hundreds of its members from national capital participated in the protest during the lunch hour. Similar protest were also held in various offices of the CPWD across the country, Asthana said.
