The accused is a member of a gang run by Asu Mev.
Following a tip off, a police team raided a house in Khoh area, upon which the criminals opened fire at the police forcing the cops to retaliate in self defence, police said.
One criminal identified as Azharuddin was caught while others including Asu escaped, Circle Officer Akhilesh Kumar said.
A hunt is on for the other gang members, he said.
