Dharmendra Singh, leading notorious criminal gang 'D-9' in the eastern region of the state, was injured in an encounter last night in Gorakhpur and was admitted to hospital where he later died, STF said.
One magazine along with a carbine, a pistol, large number of cartridges, two mobile phones and 13 SIM cards were recovered from Singh, STF said, adding that one other gang member managed to escape.
Singh was wanted in 37 cases of loot, murder and extortion in Mau, Ghazipur, Gorakhpur, Azamgarh and Bhadohi districts, they said, adding that in the past one month he had demanded 'rangdari' (extortion) from four doctors in Barhalganj area of Gorakhpur.
