Customs seize gold worth over Rs 70L from passenger at airport

Customs personnel today seized over one kg gold, estimated to be worth more than Rs 70 lakh, from a passenger allegedly trying to smuggle it into the country at the N S C Bose International Airport here.
While checking the baggage of a passenger named B Zakaria who had arrived from Bangkok, the Customs personnel found that he had concealed the gold inside batteries that he was carrying, Assistant Commissioner of Customs R S Meena said.
The gold weight around 1.652 kg and is estimated to be worth at least Rs 72 lakh, Meena said.
