Binod Behary Das (30) was fired at from close range while he was manning his shop counter by a customer yesterday. Two enraged customers had apparently picked up a quarrel with Binod demanding free liquor, the officer said.
"Binod had received three gunshot injuries and he was immediately rushed to a private hospital in Cuttack city where he died while undergoing treatment", said Sadar police inspector Debadutta Kar.
The identity of the assailants is yet to be ascertained. Police have launched a manhunt to nab them after registering a murder case following a written complaint by the deceased's brother.
A profusely bleeding Chakuli was undergoing treatment in hospital, where his condition is stated to be stable. Chakuli and two others were exonerated by a trial court here in May this year in a murder case of 2013.
