The TNT network broke the news at the Television Critics Association's press tour on Saturday, reported Entertainment Weekly.
The 22-year-old actress will play Sara Howard, who is a strong-willed secretary on police commissioner Theodore Roosevelt's team and wants to become New York City's first female police detective.
The plot of the show is based on Caleb Carr's best-selling book of the same name, "The Alienist".
It is a psychological thriller set in the Gilded Age of New York City in 1896 which is witness to a string of ghastly murders of boy prostitutes that have left the city shocked.
