The body of the girl, a class eight student, bearing injury marks and with her clothes in a tattered state, was discovered in a sugarcane field last evening, police said.
While the family members alleged that the victim had been gangraped and then murdered, Daurala Police Station in-charge Parashuram said that the post-mortem report did not confirm sexual assault.
The girl was a resident of Inchauli area and had gone to her maternal uncle's home in Daurala area. She was killed on Sunday when she had gone with her maternal grandmother to nearby jungles to fetch fodder, police said.
When her grandmother returned to find that the girl was yet to reach home, a search was started by her family members which led them to the body in the fields.
Police said they registered a case of murder against unidentified persons.
