Dalmia Cement (Bharat) Ltd on Thursday said it has tied up with UK-based Carbon Clean Solutions Ltd (CCSL) to build a large-scale (five-lakh-tonne capacity per year) carbon capture storage facility in Tamil Nadu.
Dalmia Cement (Bharat) Ltd signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with CCSL to provide the technology and operational service for the plant based on its CDRMax technology, a statement from Dalmia Cement said here.
Small-scale carbon capture plants currently have been commissioned in a few cement plants in China and Europe. A large-scale demonstration plant of this capacity has not yet been planned in the cement industry, the statement said.
Dalmia Cement and CCSL would explore multiple utilisation streams for the carbondioxide captured from the large-scale plant, including direct sale for use in other industries and in manufacturing of chemicals, it said.
"At Dalmia Cement, a progressive business enterprise that foresees the future today, we are committed to be a carbon negative cement group by 2040," Dalmia Cement (Bharat) Ltd MD and CEO Mahendra Singhi said.
"Capturing process emissions from cement manufacture will be critical towards reaching net zero by 2040 and therefore, our approach is to set up scalable large demonstration projects on carbon capture with multiple utilisation streams," he said.
Commenting on the partnership with Dalmia Cement (Bharat) Ltd, CEO and co-founder of CCSL Aniruddha Sharma said, "We are very excited to partner with Dalmia Cement on this industry-leading demonstration project".
"Decarbonising the cement industry is absolute key to reaching 'net zero' emissions. By combining our low-cost modular CO2 capture technology...we plan to deliver a full solution to Dalmia Cement", he said.
