Indian Cricket Board's (BCCI) interim chief Jagmohan Dalmiya today congratulated the Indian cricket team for winning the last edition of the ICC Champions Trophy in England.
"Firstly, many congratulations to the Indian cricket team for their triumph in this edition of the ICC Champions Trophy," Dalmiya said in a statement.
Dalmiya praised the Indian team for its unbeaten performance in the tournament.
"What is more important is that it has been an unbeaten winning run by the Indian team. They won their two warm up games, three group league games, the semi-final and now the final. It has been an exceptional performance by the team and the support staff," said Dalmiya, who is also the president of Cricket Association of Bengal.
India defeated hosts England by five runs in a nerve-wracking rain-hit final of the Champions Trophy here last night.
Sent into bat, India first scored a modest 129 for seven in the rain-curtailed 20-over-a-side game, and then restricted England to 124 for eight.
Ravindra Jadeja (33 no and 2/24) made another all-round contribution which proved to be telling in the context of the match.
This was India's second Champions Trophy title having won the first one jointly with Sri Lanka back in 2002. Captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni now holds the unique record of being the first captain to win three world titles in the sport.
