A senior police officer was injured on Tuesday after being hit by splinters from a bomb hurled towards the team of personnel he was leading to arrest those involved in vandalising the railway station at Sankrail here, Howrah City Police said.
Nobody has been arrested so far in connection with the matter, a senior police officer said.
Howrah City Police Deputy Commissioner of Police (Headquarters) Ajeet Singh Yadav was injured in both his legs after being hit by the splinters from a bomb hurled by unidentified persons who tried to stop the police team led by him to arrest those hiding at Sankrail railway station after vandalising it on Sunday, he said.
"Yadav was also beaten up by these unknown people and was injured in his head. We have launched a search for the miscreants," the IPS officer said.
Yadav, who was rushed to a private hospital, was discharged after preliminary medical assistance.
Sankrail railway station was vandalised by unknown miscreants as a part of the ongoing agitation in different parts of Bengal against the amended Citizenship Act.
