DCW chief alleges predecessor recruited wives of babus

Delhi Commission for Women Chief Swati Maliwal has alleged that her predecessor Barkha Shukla recruited wives of IAS and IPS officials for 49 contractual posts that were never advertised.
The allegations have been made by Maliwal in her response to the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB), which had conducted a search at her office last week on Shukla's complaint.
"Barkha Shukla Singh made 49 contractual appointments and appointed wives of IAS and IPS officers without giving advertisements and over 2,500 cases were pending when I assumed
charge," Maliwal claimed.
"Present commission has handled 12000 complaints compared to 3500 by previous commission. We have also given over 50 recommendations to government in one year as compared to the recommendations given by previous commission in entire tenure of 8 years," she further claimed.

The ACB had last week carried out searches at DCW office here in connection with complaints by a former chief secretary and Barkha Shukla, triggering an angry reaction from Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal.

In her complaint, Barkha had claimed that several AAP supporters were given plum posts in the women's panel, an allegation strongly denied by Maliwal, who attributed the increased staff strength to the "increase" in the amount of work being handled by DCW since she took over in July last year.
Refuting the allegations, Maliwal said that Barkha's complaint against her was "politically motivated".
"The present complaint is politically motivated, mala fide and that no illegal appointments have been made in the commission during the tenure of the present panel," Maliwal said.
