"A total of 8 persons lost their lives and 22 others were injured in the residential building collapse which took place on Sunday. Certain sections of media reported the death toll at 9.
"The confusion over the death count occurred as a body was shifted from one hospital to another and found mention in records at both the hospitals. The final tally stood at 8," an official release said.
District collectorate has sent a report on the collapse to Chief Minister's Office (CMO) and to the Relief and Rehabilitation Department for giving financial assistance to the affected families.
The report has recommended payment of compensation amount from the CM's relief fund.
A two-storey 35-year-old residential building, located at Gaibi Nagar in Bhiwandi, crumbled on Sunday morning due to heavy rains.
