Debris, presumed to be from 2011 Japan tsunami, found in US

A section of a fiberglass boat, suspected to be a debris from the earthquake and tsunami that struck Japan in 2011, has been recovered off the coast of the US state of Oregon, authorities said.
The Oregon Parks and Recreation Department said they have recovered a section of a fiberglass boat up to 30 feet long after it was spotted off the state's coast last week. It has now been towed into Newport Harbour.
The debris, which travelled nearly 6,500 km, is suspected to be from the powerful earthquake and tsunami that hit Japan on March 11, 2011.
Authorities found some specimens of a variety of yellowtail jack fish normally found in Japanese waters, CNN reported.

Biologists with the Oregon Coast Aquarium and Oregon State University's Hatfield Marine Science Center inspected the debris while it was still at sea and determined that the ecological threat posed by invasive species was small.
The remnants of the boat will be dried out, inspected further and taken to a landfill.
The yellowtail jack fish found on the boat will be taken to the Oregon Coast Aquarium, the report said.
