Dec 16 gangrape: Maneka to talk to Home Min on juvenile's

Union Minister Maneka Gandhi today said she will speak to the Home Minister over the release of the juvenile convicted in December 16 gang-rape case following reports that he may be put up with an NGO once set free later this month.
"We have no information about it. We will speak to the Home Minister tomorrow (about) what they intend to do," she said after releasing a Handbook on Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace.
She said the ministry had requested the Law Ministry for enactment of a law to monitor sex offenders but has not yet received any reply.

Gandhi, in a letter written to Law Minister Sadananda Gowda, had requested that police should keep a track of the movements of such convicts post-release for which a law should be enacted.
In cases where the accused are convicted for committing heinous crimes, the orders of the court may also include mandatory requirement of registration of the accused in local police station so that police can monitor their activities and keep track of their movements, Gandhi had said.
