According to the policy note tabled in the Assembly, there has been no change in the number of murders reported annually in Tamil Nadu with 2012 and 2013 reporting 1,806 cases in both years.
While family quarrel, wordy quarrel and previous enmity were the major reasons for murders last year.
A total of 10 police personnel have been placed under suspension in 15 cases of custodial deaths. Judicial Magistrates have been conducting the enquiry and based on their reports government will take necessary action, the note said.
As for illegal land grabbing cases in the state, a total of 2,482 cases have been registered, 2,661 persons have been arrested and 4,587 acres of land worth Rs 1,819 crore retrieved between May 2011 and May 2014.
While CBCID completed investigation and filed final reports in 181 cases of the new 112 cases and 243 pending cases, Narcotics Intelligence Bureau detected 1,687 cases, arrested 1,707 accused and seized Rs 3.99 crore worth of drugs in 2013, it said.
