Decrease in murder for gain in TN

With the state police remaining vigilant round the clock, cases of murders for gain has come down to 121 in Tamil Nadu last year, against 137 in 2012.
According to the policy note tabled in the Assembly, there has been no change in the number of murders reported annually in Tamil Nadu with 2012 and 2013 reporting 1,806 cases in both years.
While family quarrel, wordy quarrel and previous enmity were the major reasons for murders last year.
A total of 10 police personnel have been placed under suspension in 15 cases of custodial deaths. Judicial Magistrates have been conducting the enquiry and based on their reports government will take necessary action, the note said.
While the number of police firing incidents averaged 13 per year between 2006-2010 and has come down to seven since 2011, only four of the eight incidents reported last year were directed at a mob for the purpose of maintaining public order and none of them resulted in death or injury.
As for illegal land grabbing cases in the state, a total of 2,482 cases have been registered, 2,661 persons have been arrested and 4,587 acres of land worth Rs 1,819 crore retrieved between May 2011 and May 2014.
While CBCID completed investigation and filed final reports in 181 cases of the new 112 cases and 243 pending cases, Narcotics Intelligence Bureau detected 1,687 cases, arrested 1,707 accused and seized Rs 3.99 crore worth of drugs in 2013, it said.
The Video Piracy Cell arrested 3,004 accused in 3,020 cases and seized pirated CDs/VCDs worth Rs 36.58 crore. Seven persons were detained under Goondas Act.
