Defence Minister holds high-level meeting at SNC

Defence Minister A K Antony today held a meeting with top officials of Southern Naval Command here, mainly with regard to berthing facilities at the proposed Vizhinjam port in Thiruvananthapuram.
Naval sources declined to give any details saying it was an 'internal meeting'.
Permitting Naval ships to berth at the proposed Vizhinam port was among the issues understood to have been discussed.
Southern Naval command chief Vice-Admiral Satish Soni was among those who were present at the meeting.
The Navy has requested for a 500 metres of berthing space and 25 acres of land at the port for setting up its facilties.

The Coast Guard has sought 120 acres of quay space and five acres of land at Vizhinjam, strategically situated just 10 nautical miles from the International shipping lanes.
